Match report vs. Umina
Sunday 19 August 2018

Third Grade

Sunday at Umina for all 3 grades was of high importance for slightly different reasons, why?

Thirsty 3rds and ressy’s both needed a win to prolong their season while 1sts could assure semi finals with a positive result also.

I’ve been associated with the club on and off for nearly 30 years and have seen and been involved in finals and won Grand Finals over this period with this club but it’s always been in Division 1, this is the first time we’ve qualified for the playoffs in Premier League in any grades in that time.

Congratulations to all the players and staff and supporters for this achievement and let’s go as far as we can and enjoy the ride.

Third Grade have given themselves a lifeline with a good win against a high flying opponent with good goals to angry ant Birdy and a well struck penalty from man of the match Billy.

Sensible substitutions by Martin proved to be the catalyst for us securing the points. We need to win next week and hope that either Berkeley or Southern loses for us to make the finals. If we fail the foundations are there ,with proper guidance, to go the next step.

Reserve Grade

Gotta feel sorry for Dicko coming into this game as he has had a good squad that have, by all measures, come up well short of where their quality suggested they should be.

It is clearly the hardest gig in town coaching a squad which can change as often as Melbourne’s weather and at such short notice.

Let’s go out with a bang instead of a whimper and show Dicko how much we support and appreciate his work and enthusiasm!

First Grade

As people will tell you hindsight is 20/20 but a touch of trepidation was mixed in with optimism due to the fast that Umina were desperate and people always say that the longer you go unbeaten the closer you are to a loss.

The ground was good and a terrific start with goals to Chris and Tudds early on calmed down the nerves which allowed the supporters to actually enjoy the game.

Come 2nd half and we need to consolidate our position and score next, up pops Ben,as he as done on many times this year, and bags a brace followed by Pacey doing the same.

I’d like to thank everyone involved for making this a successful season so far and I’m sure that there is more to come.

Let’s finish at home this weekend with a win and prepare for a fantastic finals series.

Congratulations to Martin, Bullet, Stephanie and all.
