Match report vs. Southern United Ettalong.

Third Grade

How good was the weather for the first two games vs. Southern, could’ve been Summer Comp in January. Surely the football will complement the balmy conditions. Unfortunately the only thing barmy about the football was the ineptitude of our performance. It’s obvious when you dissect the game to pick up the fact that certain players don’t train as often as they should if at all. The lack of condition shows in missed tackles, wayward passing and glaringly poor finishing and for the majority that make an effort to attend training it must be frustrating. For the supporters it leaves us thinking of what might of been had the effort been there. 3rds are going to have to take a long hard look at the effort and decide if finals football is what they desire.

A 2-1 win keeps up the momentum gained over the past one game (no point looking ahead too far)and considering the games to come it was an important win if not overly impressive. The pitch was a shocker and resembled a skating rink,Torvill and Dean would’ve had a field day! The win to be followed by a game vs. Toukley next week could consolidate a spot in the top 5,not for certain but for the time being.

First Grade

2 games played in good weather and then, if as an omen, the weather turned nasty(not as nasty as the football unfortunately). The pitch had deteriorated further and it was a real struggle to play constructive football, that being said both sides had to play on it and Southern were far the better side in the first half and deservedly led 2-0. A shake up at halftime by Coach Martyn helped steady the ship and the performance improved substantially, not enough to get the result we needed but enough to offer optimism for future games.

The competition is very close once you remove Killarney’s march to the minor premiership and teams that can string together a series of positive results will end up playing finals. We need to play as a team and make decisions on the field which benefit the whole team. 3 points vs. Toukley is a must.
