Match Report vs Berkeley Vale
Sunday 6 May 2018
Third Grade
On a warm sunny day, our guys put on a first half display that had 3 points written all over it at the break. When you consider that some of the players were on a celebratory journey the night before you wondered what condition they would be in. In a nutshell, I just dropped in to see what condition their condition was in! Luckily for us Billy fronted up and banged in a brace of some quality. There is not truth in the rumour that the club is providing a carton of beer to him the night before we play.
Good to see Mitch on the scoresheet and also having Mark back marshalling the backline with Jury. The experience helps the younger guys and when Birdy gets back the team will have a good mix of youth and experience.
Reserve Grade
Terry would’ve been hoping for the guys to carry on from last week but to be honest they came up against a pretty good Berkeley side who were well up for it. We went down 2-0 but to the guys credit they never gave up the fight and managed to pull back a goal through Chris Altuneg. Although we managed to score in all honesty we didn’t really deserve to get anything out of the game. That doesn’t detract from the performance and we could play the same next week and fashion a result.
Special mention to Craig in goals he certainly kept us in the game with his dominant performance. Regardless of the result we are still looking good in second place.
First Grade
Today was going to be a good test of character against a side that was sitting in 2nd place and had lost 1 game. A spanner in the works was dished up when Aaron damaged his hamstring before kick-off meaning that Craig was now backing up his 2nd full game of the day. No disrespect to Aaron but Craig really stood up and played his 2nd belter of the day.
The guys dug in deep early as Berkeley asked a lot of questions and we had the answers. As we grew into the game there was a certain belief that we were going to be right in it and when Max was fouled in the box Birdy stepped up and scored from the spot.
The second half was a real struggle through the middle of the park and when Ben scored late on it looked as though the 3 points had been secured. 5 minutes later the game is back on when they score despite the helter skelter last 10 minutes we secured the win.
Now we need to dismiss the failure against Kanwal and get a result against another lower placed side in Umina
