Match Report vs Avoca
29 April 2018
Third Grade
A sunny day at Erina High School took me back to my childhood and I spent 15 minutes before kick-off picking up papers and standing in the corner.
After the first 15 minutes of the game I was tempted to go back there. Luckily for me and the rest of the supporters we started to deny them the opportunity to attack down our left flank and we started to get a foothold on the contest.
Correct me if I am wrong but Billy and Brad scored goals and from then on we fairly well dominated. A good decision was made when Mitch was moved from defensive midfield into the backline which certainly improved defence.
Keeping the best till last was Brad’s second strike which was never in doubt when it left his boot and flew into the top corner of the net. Contender for goal of the season!
A good win which needs to be followed up by another good performance next Saturday night (take note Sharon)
Reserve Grade
I would surmise that the Coach has been fairly happy with his charges so far this season as they appear to be the most consistent in terms of performances, without being dominant.
It is a difficult task as your team changes week in week out due to the demands of other squads. Personnel changes aside the guys played a game that they were well on top for the majority and deservedly won through 2 goals to Zac.
As is par for the course we conceded very late maybe set the nerves tingling but all was well and the points were secured. Dicko has the boys going well and hopefully we’ll get back to back wins on Saturday (take note Sharon).
First Grade
No midweek games this week denies one avenue of excuse. The result last week demanded a response and required a renewed focus in concentration and discipline in order to bolster confidence levels which must’ve been sagging somewhat.
We started the game with a certain amount of vigour and we enjoyed a good period of the first half well on top. Pacey scored a really well-crafted goal late in the first half and there was a certain amount of optimism as we took that advantage to the break.
The second half demanded that we continue to play positively with caution due to the fact that James Monie was starting to influence the game through experience and ability. As is the case weekly we lapse discipline and the obligatory equalizer eventually came via the said James Monies.
We have to thank Aaron in goal to thank for a point due to a string of saves in a man of the match performance. Eric went close to equalizing late in the game. Dicko headed against the bar, our bar, and either side could have pinched it. While it is a good point to pick up it is a disappointment not to collect all 3.
Two questions about the day need to be asked. Who in their right mind would put a playing strip like Avoca wore together. Ouch that sucked! I’ll never whinge about another football canteen in my life.
